Reading Stamps and Labels
To meet building codes and to comply with state laws, pressure-treated wood is marked with information such as the producer's name, type of preservative used, appropriate applications, and symbol of an independent inspection agency. This information may appear on ink stamp imprinted directly onto the wood or it may be seen on a tag stapled to the end of each piece. If no such information is on the wood, the buyer cannot be sure what he is getting.
The treating information appears in addition to an ink stamp indicating the grade of the lumber.
If the wood is marked "Treated to Refusal." The wood did not accept sufficient preservative to meet industry standards and building code requirements.
